County Ag Inspector (CAI)
What is a County Ag Inspector? The County Ag Inspector is responsible for enforcement of the MN Noxious Weed Law and many other tasks designed to them.
The SWCD provides the CAI role to Mille Lacs County. The staff of the SWCD are delegated by Mille Lacs County to fulfill the duties of County Ag Inspector. The SWCD provides management recommendations to the Public Works Department to fulfill the County requirement to control weeds on its lands, primarily road right-of-ways.
Ag Inspectors work with local landowners, townships, and public land managers to control these harmful plants in Mille Lacs County. They do this by being observant about what is growing in the county and by talking to landowners and land managers about what they’re seeing, and how everyone can work together to control noxious weeds.

MN Noxious Weed Law
Some plants are labeled noxious because they can harm people, animals, the feed we eat, and nature. One example of a noxoius weed is wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa). It is an invasive biennial weed hat is beginning to become a problem on roadsides in Mille Lacs County. The “juice” or sap from this plant causes severe burns when it reacts with sunlight on skin. The burns will blister and can leave scars. This plant possess a threat to human safety and therefore needs to be controlled when it is growing in areas where people are likely to come into contact with it.
