Consider Running for Election to the SWCD Board!
The 2026 filing period runs from May 19th through 5:00 on June 2nd.
In 2026, voters will elect supervisors for:
District 3: Dailey, Page, Mudgett, and Hayland Townships
District 5: East Side, Isle Harbor, Lewis Township, and the Cities of Isle andWahkon
Election Process
- Mille Lacs County has 5 SWCD supervisor positions. Each position represents certain townships.
- All county voters can vote for all districts, but candidates must live in the district they want to represent.
- Supervisors serve four-year terms. These terms are staggered so no more than three positions are up for election at the same time.
- Election Schedule:
- 2026: District 3 and District 5
- 2028: District 1, District 2, and District 4
Helpful Information for Prospective Candidates
- Anyone interested in running for SWCD supervisor must file an affidavit of candidacy and a $20 filing fee with their county elections official (typically, the county auditor).
- SWCD candidates do not participate in primary elections. All supervisor positions are decided in the November general election in even-numbered years.
- Write-in candidates must submit a written request to the county auditor for their write-in votes to be counted. Contact your county elections official for instructions.
- After being elected and beginning their term, SWCD supervisors must file a Statement of Economic Interest with the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.
