Beetles being released on a site that is infested with Leafy spurge
Biological controls are being used where appropriate. Leafy spurge beetles (Aphthona lacertosa or Aphthona nigriscutis) are released in infestations of Leafy spurge to control this noxious weed over time without expensive chemicals or mowing. The beetles feed on the foliage but their larva do the real damage, feeding underground on the roots.

Wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa) is an invasive biennial weed that is beginning to become a problem on roadsides in Mille Lacs County. The "juice" or sap from this plant causes severe burns when it reacts with sunlight on skin. Burns will blister and may leave scars. This plant posses a threat to human safety and therefore needs to be controlled when it is growing in areas where people are likely to come in contact with it.
